5 Ways We Can Help After a Car Accident
A car accident can sometimes seem mild, so many people walk away from them without seeking medical attention. But it’s much safer to get immediate care as well as to take advantage of all the ways a clinic like ours can help you post-accident.

If you’ve ever been in a car accident, you know the experience is extremely alarming. It can be difficult to determine what to do next and in what order. But even if you think you haven’t been injured, one of the first things you should do is visit a clinic like ours.

At Injury and Health Urgent Care, we take car accident injuries seriously. Melissa Kempf, MD, and Shannon Wait, DNP, APRN, FNP-C — as well as the rest of our staff — want to make sure you’re aware of how we can help you both in the immediate aftermath of the experience and during the long road ahead.

5 ways we can help after a car accident

1. Testing and diagnosis

The United States Department of Transportation states that timely medical care is paramount for you to get the treatment you need after an accident. This not only refers to the care you’ll receive by first responders but also by medical professionals in a clinic like ours.

One of the first things we do after a car accident is have a discussion about the accident itself and your symptoms. We then determine which testing tools are best to utilize in order to diagnose any possible injuries. These might include lab tests, an EEG, an X-ray, and others.

2. Coordinating further treatment

In some cases, people walk away from car accidents with nothing more than minor scrapes (which we can treat). But in others, long-term care needs to be coordinated. This could be the case if you are severely injured, if you require regular checkups later on, or if you experience psychological side effects of the accident.

We’re happy to help you determine if further treatment is needed as well as what that might look like. From surgery to mental health services to physical therapy, there are many needs that may crop up after an accident, and we’re here to assist you in finding out and coordinating which options will best suit you.

3. Filing a claim

Many people feel nervous after an accident because of the fear of dealing with insurance. Instead, let us know you need help filing a claim with your insurance plan, and we’ll do all we can to help you. This may include everything from providing the medical information your insurance company needs to assisting you with submitting a claim.

4. Avoiding unnecessary fees

We are always looking for ways to help our patients avoid paying more fees than they need to. If you have been severely injured, you may need to visit the ED, but if you haven’t been, visiting a clinic like ours can be much less expensive and help you avoid a long wait.

We’re also able to help you avoid lawyers’ fees and other unnecessary expenses as well as help ensure you’re able to get time off from work to heal. If it’s possible to do everything in one place — and we do our best to make it so — it will make your life a lot easier, especially after the difficulty of a serious accident.

5. Answering questions

We’re here to answer any questions in the aftermath of an accident. Some of these might be easily answered with the help of our other services, such as, “Have I been injured?” and “How should I proceed with treatment?”

But you might also have additional questions like:

  • When should I return to work?
  • How can I manage pain?
  • What should I do to make sure I don’t injure myself more?
  • Are there additional symptoms I should be looking for?
  • Which records will I need copies of?
  • Are any of my injuries likely to affect my future?
